No written records of Gautam Buddha's birthday have been found since his lifetime or from a century or two after that. However, many people accept that this great spiritual gurus lived, taught, and established a financial order during the Mahajanapada period during the reign of Bimbisara (c. 558 - c. 491 BCE, or c 400 400), ruler of the Magadha dynasty. He died in the early years of the reign of Ajatasatru, a Bimbisara supporter. Evidence from the earliest documents shows that Siddhārtha Gautama / Buddha was born into the Shakya family, a community living on the eastern Indian subcontinent.
